An incomplete cast copper alloy medieval scabbard chape. The incomplete openwork tongue shape front plate is decorated with at least six asymmetrical apertures. The length is 54.2mm, the thickness is 1.7mm and the weight is 14.40g.
Rob Webley kindly comments: 'I wonder whether this one is far earlier, by reference to LANCUM-692561, and the 'Birka falcons' it mentions?'. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-950.
