Unique ID: CORN-698FA7

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Fragment of a cast tinned copper alloy shoe buckle frame, which would have originally been annular in plan and drilled for a separate spindle. The frame has an inner and outer border of interlaced floral design with chevrons running around the circular and lentoid openwork. The rest of the frame and the spindle, chape and pin are missing. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar exmaple n page 110, No.702, which is dated to c.1720-1790s. Read (1988) illustrates a similar example on page 175, No.1162, which is dated to c.1720-1790.
