Rim sherd of a relatively thin walled coarseware pottery 'Severn Valley' vessel. The sherd dates to the Roman period (50 - 410), however, not enough of the sherd survives to be certain of the form or size and without this a more specific date is difficult. The rim has a swollen out-turned rim. The fabric is relatively soft with a number of angular and sub-angular quartz, grit and ironstone inclusions. The fabric also contains considerable inclusions of mica / sand. The fabric colour is a uniform mid orange colour. A suggested diameter of the rim is 22cm, and the sherd represents only 5% of the rim. The height or capacity of the vessel cannot be estimated. The sherd measures: 33.9mm length, 17.3mm width, is 7.8mm thick (rim), 3.9mm thick (body), and weighs 4.17 grams.
