Rim sherd of an unglazed earthenware pottery vessel probably dating from the medieval period (1050 - 1350). The sherd is most likely to be from a cooking pot or storage jar. The fabric of the sherd is a relatively hard earthenware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit and quartz inclusions. There is also a large amount of mica in the fabric. The fabric colour of the sherd is two tone, the centre is a reduced dark grey black colour, whilst the inner and outer surfaces are an oxidised mid brown orange colour. The rim has an inturned lip. The outer surface does not seem to be sooted. A suggested diameter of the rim is 31cm, however the sherd represents only 8% of the rim and the diameter is therefore an estimate. The height or capacity of the vessel cannot be estimated. The sherd measures 70.2mm length, 33.9mm width, is 14.4mm thick (rim), 8.1mm thick (body) and weighs 35.69 grams.
