MOUNT

Unique ID: WILT-CDE004

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Post medieval copper alloy mount with two bent proection spikes on the reverse (both bent inwards). It measures 43.7x20.2x2.1mm and weighs 10.59g. The mount has a central D-shape with an oval projecting to one side and a parallelogram to the other - this is in the form of a fanned tail and decorated with vertical grooves. At the centre of the reverse is a tiny circular worn projection, 1.5mm in diameter. It may have had an additional fixing purpose. The mount is similar in shape to the acorn type, which in turn look similar to a bird - this example looks very much like a bird and less like an acorn.
