Cast copper alloy cruciform hanger for a horse harness pendant. It measures 37.0mm long by 33.2mm wide and is 5.25mm thick. It weighs 6.3grams. The hanger has four arms in a cross shape. Three end in round rivet holes, two are complete and one broken; one of the complete holes still holds a rivet. The fourth arm ends in some form of suspension attachment, now broken. The front of the arms are moulded and the back plain. They riveted arms are shaped with a trapizoid section leading to a narrowed neck beyond which is a oval section containing the rivet hole topped by a large rounded knop. Such hangers were used on horse harness pendants fashionable from c.1150-1400 AD (Griffiths; 1986; pp.1). . A complete example with pendant can be see under SWYOR-0761F8 on the database.
