THIMBLE

Unique ID: WILT-28F766

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Incomplete and distorted sheet thimble: top with five-petalled rose, and most of walling (none of base survives) with rows of separate rings having central pits.

An unusual type - see Holmes reference (a trawl through the English and Dutch literature found only above-ground survivals similar). This item appears to have a sufficient proportion of silver to qualify as potential Treasure under the Treasure Act currently in force. Reference: Cf. Holmes, EF 1976, Thimbles, Gill & Macmillan, Dublin, 15 fig.6b & d, assigned to the late 17th century.
