Medieval cast copper alloy single looped buckle with integral forked spacer. The buckle frame is sub-oval projecting out to a pointed pin rest in the centre of the outer side. It is triangular in section with a flat back and inner edge and an angled outer side. The forked spacer joins the frame at the strap bar. There is a central gap between the forks with just a narrow strap bar around which the pin would have been bent, it is now missing. This central gap widens away from the pin as the forks narrow and are also stepped in in width about a quarter of the way along their length. The forks narrow further at the tips to sharp points. The ends of the forks closer to the frame are thicker and thin just after the strap bar. The plates that would have covered the forked spacers and abutted these thicker ends have been lost.
Griffiths, Philpott and Egan, (2007: 92-5) illustrate a similar from Meols, no. 599 and suggest they date to the late 14th century.
