Obverse description: Laureate crowned head of Africa wearing Elephant skin facing right. To the right vertical corn ear, under head: plough. On far right (next to ear of corn) vertical [Q.] MET[ELL] downwards. On left [SC]IPIO • IMP vertically upwards. Between the head of Africa and corn ear is a crescent shaped punched mark. Between the head and inscription on the left is another punched mark (┴) which is shaped like an inverted T. Behind the head in the upper left corner is a further punched mark in the shape of an inverted horseshoe: ∩
