HARNESS PENDANT

Unique ID: BH-DFA832

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A bent and corroded copper-alloy horse harness pendant of probable 14th century date. The pendant takes the form of a spade-shield bearing a heraldic device of Or fretty gules (gold lozenges on a red background) - this appears to be the arms of the de Verdon family. Only traces of the red enamel survive and the gilding has also been lost. The suspension loop is set at a right-angle to the top edge and consists of a flattened, sub-oval plate with a circular aperture. The reverse of the pendant is flat and plain. The object measures 45.5mm high, 27.8mm wide and 6.8mm thick. The weight is 10.13g.
