silver-gilt signet ring Date: late 16th or early 17th century Description: Silver-gilt signet ring, the bezel engraved with the initials TS flanking a knot, oriented vertically and surrounded by a dotted border. The gilding is worn on the hoop, especially at the back. Discussion: This is a characteristic type of personal signet ring. Several examples are held by the British Museum. Metal content: The precious metal content of the ring fulfils the requirements of the Treasure Act in that it is greater than 10%.
