Fragment of a late Medieval finger-ring, which is curved and tapers gradually at one end. The majority of the fragment consists of a section of hoop with a raised band between two narrow borders. These are decorated with a criss-cross pattern. The central band is engraved with motifs, some of which resemble letters. At the wide end the raised band yields to a wider section or a section which may have formed the bezel.
The fragment is silver-gilt and dates from the late fifteenth or the sixteenth century and as such, due to its age and precious metal content, it qualifies as Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
Dimensions: diameter, when complete, 22 mm.
