Roman enamelled copper alloy trumpet brooch, 1st or 2nd century. The spring and pin are missing. The spring would have been held by the single lug at the back of the head. No head loop, but small knop at the top of the head. Trumpet shaped head decorated with three radiating leaf-shaped champleve enamel cells containg cream-coloured emanel. Two round cells containing cream coloured enamel just above the central moulding, which is flat on the reverse. raised rib on the lower half of the bow. Circular bun-shaped foot, undecorated plain base. Damaged triangular catchplateyellowish-brown patina. Soil & sand adhering. The brooch was found in two pieces (broken just below the central moulding) and glued together by the finder. Length 55.00mm, width of head 15.16mm, width of central moulding 9.42mm, diameter of foot 6.84mm, thickness 23mm, weight 10.24g.
