Object type certainty: Certain

Early medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) copper alloy mount, possibly part of a strap union, 25mm long, 24mm wide and 3mm thick. The object is in fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 6.24grams. The object is triangular in form and has a bowed rectangular section. It has a central circular hole which has a raised border around it. This is flanked by three smaller circular holes which are either part of the decoration or are fixing holes. In each corner there is a small raised area. Although very worn, the decoration suggests a Borre style piece. The raised areas in each corner could be animal heads and the central border appears to form an interlace pattern. Therefore the object would date to the first half of the tenth century (K. Leahy pers comm.)
