A copper alloy crucifix, possibly medieval in date. On the front of the crucifix there is the corpus of Christ in relief over a cross. The arms and crossbar of the cross form a triangle, within which is the head of Christ and crown or a crown of thorns in relief in the background. Above the crown is a rectangular plaque within a larger broadly rectangular area, but no detail on the plaque can be discerned. At the top of the crucifix is ridge which may be the broken stub of a suspension mount. The hands of Christ are rounded, with little detail visible, as is the case with the face. There are three transverse ribs near to the base of the cross. The reverse of the crucifix is flat and undecorated. The crucifix is 27.8mm long and 16.2mm wide, with a maximum thickness of 2.7mm at the head. The crucifix weighs 1.65g. The crucifix has a green/brown patina, which also covers the ridge at the top of the cross. A direct parrallel has not been found for this example, although object reference NMS-8E01D7 is similar although less complete and appears to be less finely detailed. On stylistic grounds, the crucifix recorded here may possibly be medieval.
