LITHIC IMPLEMENT

Unique ID: BH-CDFC54

A flint scraper of Neolithic date. The general form and size of the flake suggests that it probably dates from the early part of the period. The implement has been made from a broad, thick flake which has developed a heavily patinated whitish-grey surface. The object has roughly parallel vertical sides, a rounded proximal end and an irregular distal end. The dorsal surface exhibits two main arrises, which may have resulted from the removal of flakes or, alternatively, may be the result of thermal fracture. The majority of retouch has been executed on the convex proximal edge, but there is a limited amount to both vertical sides also. On the ventral side, the bulb-of-percussion has been removed and the ripples are almost imperceptible. The tool measures 57.7mm long, 46.7mm wide and 19.1mm thick. The weight is 44.78g.
