John Naylor comments: The only usage of IB as a countermark I can find is on a range of European copper coins supposedly countermarked for use in Barbados, probably in the late 17th or early 18th century. The example I saw quoted didn't have a heart-shaped enclosure, but these seem to have been common enough in the Caribbean (they are known for Martinique, for example). The assignment of countermarks is rarely all that secure, but this seems at least plausible. The main reference for countermarks is JR de Mey, Les countemarques sur les monnaies (Brussels, 1982)- see no.252 for the IB mark.
