Medieval brooch formed of a hoop of silver wire distorted into an oval. It retains its original pin, which is contained within a recess in the frame and is formed of a single piece of silver bent around the frame of the brooch, so that its point appears in two distinct parts. The two ends were undoubtedly soldered together when the brooch was new. The pin has a raised section forming a collar, which appears to have been punched for decorative effect.
The brooch is silver-gilt and dates from the thirteenth century. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
