SCRAPER (TOOL)

Unique ID: IOW-2C1195

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

A flint steep-ended scraper of Neolithic or Bronze Age date (3500 BC – 800 BC). Length: 39.8mm; width: 30.7mm and 12.4mm thick. Weight: 17.39g. The implement, with a reddish yellow (Munsell Color 7.5YR 6/8) patina, is sub-oval in plan. At the proximal end there is a relatively dull break which has the appearance of being a striking platform although it is probably a later break as there is no associated bulb of percussion. The distal end is steep (or abrupt). The ventral face is almost flat and has indistinct ripples. The dorsal face is completely covered with flake removal scars.
