Late Iron Age or Romano-British strap union of Taylor and Brailsford's Type 1, in very good condition and with a bright green patina. The fitting comprises two rounded adjoining rings, semi-circular in section, flanked by a pair of bars, circular in section, each to take the ends of the two straps. The bars are attached to the loops by pairs of collars with double mouldings. Type 1 strap unions date from 200BC to 200AD. Taylor and Brailsford have numerous examples in their article 'British Iron Age Strap Unions' in the Proceedings of the Prehistoric Society, volume 51, December 1985, page 251, figure 2.
