Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount, Williams Class A, Type 1A, very worn and corroded, moulded cast decoration of addorsed beasts beneath a perforated lobe containing corroded iron rivet, the knobbed profile forms the outline of the pair of heads, two rivet-holes, one containing remains of corroded iron rivet, above flange on reverse at base. Iron staining on the reverse of the plate. 31 x 39mm. Cf. Williams (1997), figs.19-20, especially p. 27; no 1; referred to in Webley (2014, 354; note 63). 11th century.
