A Medieval pilgrim badge representing St George on horseback slaying the dragon. St George raises his sword above his head; the dragon recoils beneath the feet of the horse. The horse's tail is broken, but otherwise the badge is almost complete, though much abraded. On the reverse are the remains of a stitching loop. Dimensions: width 14 mm, height 15 mm.
The pilgrim badge is silver gilt, and dates from the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
