BELL

Unique ID: NCL-DE8DC8

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper-alloy bell of 17th or 18th century date. Only one large fragment of the body remains, but this is decorated. A band across the top is inscribed with A T V(?), that is bordered with small raised squares. The lower border of the band is paralleled by a pair of raised lines. Below this, the lower half bears incised scrolling floral/vine motifs. The bell was probably a handbell, with an estimated diamter of 65-70mm determined by the curviture of the remaining sherd.
