This is one of the first coins to have an exclusive Christian reverse design. The Chi-Rho represents the first two letters of Christ’s name in Greek. The Alpha and the Omega on either side refer to Christ being the beginning and the end. Hence in the Book of Revelation: ‘I am the beginning and the end’. These coins had no silver content and were outlawed by decree in 354. Sometimes, smaller coins were made by cutting discs out of these pieces.
