A copper alloy medeival composite buckle with an integral, trapezoidal hollow socketed plate. The buckle is 40.4mm long, 23.9mm wide and 5.5mm thick. The frame is oval with a widened outer edge and a slight groove as a pin rest. There is transverse moulding of the area joining the frame and the plate which is waisted and contains a hole for the pin. The pin is tapering and complete. It is bent into a loop at the attachment end. The front and sides of the plate are cast in one with the frame but the back plate is a separate sheet riveted on with three plain rivets, only one of which survives. A piece of leather survives trapped in the hollow plate. The front of the plate is decorated with a crudely incised flower with four petals in a square border. Traces of white metal survive on the front of the plate. Buckles of similar style can be seen in Egan and Pritchard (1991) on page 104. They date from the early fifteenth century.
