The hook-piece from a sheet copper alloy book clasp of post-medieval date. The book clasp measures 33.2mm by 13.5mm by 0.8mm and weighs 1.3g. It is flat and rectangular with one flared end which is is perforated by a central hole which contains the remains of a rivet. This end is damaged but has the stubs of three lobes. At the other end is a backwards-curving hook. The front of the clasp is decorated with a stamped geometric pattern and the back is undecorated. The book clasp hook-piece would have been attached to a leather strap with a rivet and backplate and would have been used in conjunction with a catch-piece to fasten a book shut.
