Roman lock pin; cast copper alloy lock pin with flat, open-work section, probably dating to the 3rd or 4th century. The pin is formed of a single piece of copper alloy with a long, flat, tapering pin section extending from the end of a broader, sub-rectangular lock section which is essentially an open frame, crossed by four strips at various angles forming the openwork element of the lock pin. The pin is flattened on one face. The whole has an even, thick, grey-green patina over its surface. Length 48.20mm, width 8.57mm, depth 4.53mm, weight 4.98g. Compare the similar lock bolt recorded on the database as WILT-FEF748 and the example illustrated in Mills, page 80, object RB236.
