Post Medieval (1450-1550) cast copper alloy purse bar fragment. The central rectangular block and one arm survives. The central block measures 18.4mm long, 11.5mm wide and 8.4mm thick. It has a central perforation, measuring 5.6mm in diameter, where the suspension loop would have been attached. The block is decorated with an engraved cross on one surface, while the other surface has a vertical line with a diagonal line to either side. One side of the block has a worn break, while the other side has a short arm. The arm is oval in cross section, measuring 6.4mm by 5.2mm where it joins the block, and expands to 7.4mm by 6.1mm. This section of the bar is 8.5mm long. The bar then decreases to 4.3mm in diameter for a length of 5mm, where a square loop from the purse frame is still attached. The arm of the purse bar then expands out into a globular terminal, measuring 7.9mm in diameter and 6.2mm thick. The square loop from the purse frame measures 11.4mm by 10.7mm and is 3mm thick. The loop has a square cross section, and has a worn break at its base. The purse bar has a mid green patina. It weighs 14.18 grams.
