FINGER RING

Unique ID: SWYOR-BB8D42

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper alloy finger ring, with a thin D-shaped section. The ring has a diameter of 22.3mm and is 4.9mm thick. The upper and lower borders of the finger ring are beaded and are stepped in. The main body of the ring is decorated with three sets of letters. The letter sets each seem to be nonsensical groups of lines, and two of the sets have a star at one end. This finger ring is similar to PAS database record numbers SUSS-3CFCF1, SUSS-3D2CD1, SUSS-9BAEF6 and SUSS-9BD050. These rings were made of gold and it is possible that this is a cheaper copy of a similar design. There are no markings on the interior of the finger ring. No joint is visible. The copper alloy is a dark jade-green colour. The edges are rather chipped. This ring probably dates from the late medieval to early post-medieval period, circa 1400-1600.
