WEIGHT

Unique ID: SF5491

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

4oz copper-alloy trade weight, 50 mm diameter and 9 mm thick, decorated with concentric grooves and stamped with at least three stamps. These are hard to read due to corrosion, but all appear to be the same - a crowned GR. They are placed at 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock and 7 o'clock, all with the crowns towards the outside. Probably a provincial (non-London) weight of the late 18th or early 19th century (up to 1826). Now weighs 111.28g (3.93 oz).

This record was created before the Portable Antiquities Scheme began using the Central Database. We are aware that this record may fall below our usual standards of recording, and we are working to rectify this.
