An assemblage of twelve simple flint tools of late Mesolithic to middle Neolithic date. Part of a large assemblage of Mesolithic to Bronze Age flintwork*. Seven of the pieces (nos. 37, 38, 39, 41, 43, 44 and 46) are categorised as re-touched flakes. Most are sub-oval to sub-rectangular in plan, have vertical arrises and blade removal scars on the dorsal surfaces, plus a limited amount of mostly non-invasive re-touch to one edge. No. 44 has a deliberately serrated vertical edge, possibly indicating that it performed a saw-like function; no. 38 has a cut notch, as does no. 46. The remianing pieces are of varying forms and functions. No. 45 has been made from a broad, sub-oval flake and appears to be a combined boring/scraping tool. It has a clear bulb-of-percussion and rippling on the ventral surface, invasive re-touch down both vertical edges and comes to a point at the distal end. No. 40 is made from a broad, sub-oval flake. The flake removal scars on the dorsal surface suggest it originates from a blade core. It has been re-touched along one vertical edge and at the distal end, and is best described as an 'End and side core scraper'. It probably dates from the early to middle Neolithic. The remaining three pieces are core rejuvination flakes. Two of these (nos. 36 and 42) are probably early to middle Neolithic in date. No. 35 has also been re-touched to create a hooked tool. The colour of the flint varies from dark grey to a heavily patinated pinkish-white. Several of the artefacts retain surface cortex. The smallest piece (no. 42) is 28.5mm long, 23.9mm wide and 8.3mm thick; the largest (no. 39) is 55.2mm long, 31.3mm wide and 4.6mm thick. The total weight of the assemblage is 77.2g. *See also: BH-D7D6B1, BH-D80626, BH-D85097, BH-2C8256, BH-2E2601, BH-2E5412, BH-2E7BB6, BH-2EA041, BH-2EB740, BH-2ECED3, BH-2F2323, BH-2F74C0, BH-2FA0C8, BH-2FCA68, BH-2FEC65, BH-301025, BH-303421, BH-304DB2, BH-305CD4, BH-307338, BH-30A518, BH-30BA93, BH-30D1D6, BH-56E0B2.
