Three fragmentary rim sherds of relatively thin walled unglazed pottery vessels; not enough survives to indicate the form or overall size. These sherds are Severn Valley coarseware which dates to the Roman period (50 - 410). Not enough of the sherds survive to be certain of the form or size, without this a more specific date is difficult. The rims both have a swollen outturned rim. The fabric is relatively soft and slightly powdery with a number of angular and sub-angular quartz, grit and ironstone inclusions. The fabric also contains considerable inclusions of mica / sand. The fabric colour is a mid buff orange and the outer colour is a lighter mid orange. The sherds measure: 1: 44.3mm length, 33.2mm width, is 12mm thick (rim), 6.8mm thick (body), and weighs 16.98 grams. A suggested diameter of the rim is 27cm, and the sherd represents only 6% of the rim. The height or capacity of the vessel cannot be estimated. 2: 28mm length, 12.6mm width, is 7.4mm thick (rim), 3.8mm thick (body), and weighs 2.21 grams. A diameter of the rim cannot be suggested due to the small size of the sherd. The height or capacity of the vessel also cannot be estimated. 3: 26.2mm length, 13mm width, is 11.5mm thick (rim), the body does not survive, and weighs 3.37 grams. A diameter of the rim cannot be suggested due to the small size of the sherd. The height or capacity of the vessel also cannot be estimated.
