BUTTON

Unique ID: KENT-613821

Object type certainty: Certain

Mid 17th Century. Pewter alloy - tombac, cast, typical Civil War 'Pimple' button. Length 14.3mm, Width 13.8mm, Thickness 6.5mm, Diameter 14.3mm, Weight 4.4g. Medium size, convex or dome shaped, solid one-piece button with a small bobble or 'pimple' on the top. Flat back minus the probable steel loop - now just a rusty stain. This type of button would have been attached to an embroidered close-fitting doublet, an ornamental leather jerkin or a buff coat. The buff coat was an item of military origins, although at a later date it became fashionable as civilian wear. Attractive silver/grey patina.
