An incomplete gold stirrup-shaped finger-ring of Medieval, thirteenth century date (AD 1200 - AD 1300).
The finger-ring has a slender hoop rising to a pointed bezel where there is an oval cell. The setting is missing. A small nick and discolouration of the metal on the inside of the hoop, near the base, represents a soldered join. The hoop is slightly misshapen.
A similar gold finger-ring has been recorded from Worldham, Hampshire (Treasure Annual Report 2004, no. 187).
Notes:
The finder attempted to find the missing setting by sieving the soil surrounding the find-spot. However, the setting was not located.
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
