STRAP FITTING

A worn incomplete probable strap fitting possibly of medieval date. Consisting of a central rectangular shaft with incomplete terminals at either end, these are oval in shape and the more complete example has a central circular hole and a fragment of a further projection in the centre of its outer edge. There is also a smaller possible rivet hole through the centre of the rectangular shaft. The mount is now bent and distorted and measure 32.36mm in length and 24.03mm in width, across the terminal and 11.42mm in width across the shaft. There are tiny traces of gilding on one face.
