Cast copper alloy button of probable Post Medieval date (1600-1700 AD). The button consists of a circular, probably hollow domed (D sectioned) head, with a separate cast back plate with integral shank set off centre at 90º to the angle of the head. The shank is formed from a length of copper alloy wire. The domed head of the button is undecorated (although heavily dented) as is the reverse face. The button head measures 11.9mm diameter and is 8.9mm thick: The shank projects 3.1mm. The button weighs 2.01 grams. The button is a mid green brown colour with a polished patina which covers all surfaces. A similar undecorated, button has been dated by Gordon Bailey 17th century, however, the style persists into the 18th century (Bailey 2004: pp 32-33, fig 8.10).
