2006 T172: Gestingthorpe, Essex: Incomplete silver Medieval ring brooch
Description: Incomplete silver medieval ring brooch. The brooch is circular in plan and sub square in section. It is formed from twisted wire. Within each twist, the brooch has been decorated with raised pellets along the entire length. The narrowed pin bar is broken and missing. The pin is also missing. Break edges are worn suggesting damage occurred in antiquity. Apart from this minor damage, the brooch survives in good condition with a mid grey silvery patina. A similar example is reported in the Treasure Annual Report 2003, number 156. It dates from the late 13th or early 14th century.
