FINGER RING

Unique ID: SF4484

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Large finger-ring of shiny white silver. The hoop is 24 mm in external diameter, 2.5 mm wide and 1 mm thick opposite the bezel. At the shoulder the thickness swells to a 4 mm tall bezel, forming a low 'stirrup' shape. The top of the bezel is now a little crushed and the ?oval setting is empty; a small rounded white glass bead survives separately, but looks too small for the setting. There is no decoration on the hoop. James Robinson from the British Museum has seen this ring and dates it to the 13th century. He has recommended that it be disclaimed.
