Incomplete cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval - Post Medieval date (1350 - 1700). The weight is broadly circular in plan and regular in cross section. Neither face of the weight is decorated, however one face seems to have a series of irregular punches / stamps impressed in the surface. Due to the corrosion and patina of the weight these marks cannot be accurately read. The weight is a mid grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina which covers all surfaces. This example is most likely to date from the later medieval or post medieval periods and have been used as a two ounce weight. The weight measures 34.4mm in diameter and is 8mm thick. It weighs 54.98 grams or 1.94ozs (849 grains).
