THIMBLE

Unique ID: SF4241

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Thimble made from thin copper-alloy, now a little squashed. The rim is very fragmentary, but can be seen to have been unthickened and decorated with a single groove. Above, the straight flared sides have irregular vertical rows of circular hand-made indentations, and the conical top has horizontal rings or a spiral of similar indentations. There is an indentation in the very top which has now broken through the metal. Original height probably c. 17 mm, and original diameter at rim 12-13 mm. Original diameter at rim is very hard to work out - in its squashed state it measures 12 x 22 mm. 15th century.
