HARNESS FITTING

Unique ID: SF4063

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper-alloy strap fitting, perhaps from horse-harness, consisting of a rectangular plate 15 x 13.5 mm with an integral rivet on the reverse. A projection, originally 6 mm wide but gently tapering, emerges from one short side and bends under and curves back up. The end of the projection flares into a diamond-shaped plate which forms the rove to the rivet. The loop thus formed is now broken. Although now worn and corroded so that no decoration can be seen, it seems likely that the rectangular plate was originally decorated.
