CASTING WASTE

Unique ID: LIN-BC5504

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Piece of copper alloy casting waste, or perhaps a failed casting, vaguely shaped like a standing eagle. A circular-sectioned shank projects from the chest of the eagle, which may represent the casting flue. Other Roman eagle figurines are known from Lincolnshire, and since the find came from a Roman site it is possible it is a failed casting.
