Gilt horse harness mount, square (20 x 20mm), cast with relief decoration and enamelled central roundel. Blazon: Gules a triple-towered castle Or (on a circular field within a roundel or tressure from which project four cinquefoils between four roundels on a pelleted background, the roundels at top and base are pierced by rivet-holes. Possibly representing the arms of CASTILLE. Cf. Ashley (2002) Medieval Armorial Horse Furniture in Norfolk Figs. 8 and 9. Late 12th-13th-century.
