Copper-alloy brooch, probably of small-long type, with both the head and foot plate incomplete. In fact it is hard to tell which is the head or foot; both plates have a longitudinal ridge on the reverse, one of which is shorter and has a very slight dip in the centre, perhaps the remains of a perforation. This end therefore has a greater claim to being the headplate! All edges appear to be broken leaving a sub-oval shape 19.5 mm long and 16 mm wide. Corrosion makes any decoration invisible. The bow is chunky and sharply humped with a facet to either side and a triangular facet to either end - almost pyramidal, but on a rectangular base. The ?foot-plate again has edges which all appear broken, but retains a sub-rectangular shape with rounded corners 19 mm wide and 16 mm long. Again no decoration is visible, but there is a lump to one side which appears to be fused to the foot-plate. Is this the result of burning? All the breaks appear very old. Overall length 45 mm. An unusual brooch, perhaps fifth century.
