Roman cast copper alloy lock pin. The lock pin has a circular head which is slightly concave. There is a central raised pyramidal boss with a circular cross section and a depressed circle at its apex. The head is decorated with incised rings, two rings border the central boss, and a further two rings are located towards the rim. The head has a diameter of 27.02mm. The reverse of the head is plain and undecorated. A central integrally cast shank protrudes from the centre of the reverse. The shank has a sub-circular cross section where it joins the headplate, the cross section changes to rectangular. The shaft is 23.53mm long, with a diameter of 6.31, and a width of 5.57mm by 3.63mm at the terminal. There is a cast, sub-rectangular opening at the end of the shaft, measuring 6.05mm by 1.52mm. The lock pin has a maximum length of 30.99mm and it weighs 15.28 grams. The surface is slightly worn and it has a patchy mid to dark green patina. Similar examples can be seen in Crummy 1983 page 124, no 4142 and 4143.
