COIN

Unique ID: BERK-899741

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Unusual Roman coin: this appears to be a copper alloy core for a plated contemporary copy of a silver denarius. The obverse inscription does not make sense with the portrait. It looks like Macrinus (217-8), although the inscription is not consistent with him.

Notes:

The coin was discovered c.15-20 years prior to being brought forward for recording. It has been cleaned, possibly treated or coated with chemical agents and has lost its original patination.
