A copper-alloy button-and-loop fastener of Wild's Class VI dating to the late Iron Age to early Roman period. There has been little study of this diverse category of artefact (several examples of which are recorded on the PAS database) which appears to develop from the cylindrical toggles of the late Iron Age (see, for example, R. Jackson; 1990; pp. 40). The head is rectangular in plan and, at the centre, has a recessed circular cell with outer ring. The cell probably once contained an enamel setting, but no trace of this remains. On the reverse, extending from the centre point of the upper edge is an integral loop. The first part of this loop consists of a circular-section shaft, set at ninety degrees to the plate; the upper section is vertical and takes the form of an inverted triangular frame. The object is in good condition, with little wear or corrosion. It measures 18.1mm wide, 19.8mm high and 9.7mm from back to front. The weight is 4.77g.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
