Slightly laminated and burnt body sherd from a pottery vessel, not enough survives to indicate the form, probably dating from the later medieval or early post medieval period (1350-1550). The sherd is irregular in plan and profile. The fabric is over-fired earthenware (due to it being burnt in an uncontrolled fire) with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit, and quartz inclusions. The fabric is also highly micaeous. The fabric colour is a grey brown. There is no evidence of a glazed surface applied to the external face of the sherd, however, the sherd has laminated and this may have been lost. Not enough of the vessel survives to suggest the size or form of the vessel. The sherd itself is relatively unworn and the edges although slightly abraded are relatively crisp. The dating of the sherd is difficult due to the size and state of preservation but it is suggested that it would fit within the wares dated to the later medieval period. The sherd measures 40.3mm in length, 23.7mm width, is 4.3mm thick and weighs 5.87 grams.
