A pointed flint handaxe of Lower Palaeolithic (c. 500,000 - 300,000 BC) date. The tool has been made from a large flint nodule. At the butt end there remains a portion of the original cortex. The tool tapers upwards from the rounded butt, decreasing gradually in width and thickness towards the rounded point. There are several broad flake removal scars, which radiate downwards and outwards from the butt end, whilst the edges have received much finer retouching. The reverse has less evidence of working, but there are several broad flake removal scars near the butt. The flint is a patinated light yellowish-grey colour. The implement measures 88.1mm long, 60.1mm wide and 27.1mm thick. The weight is 126.45g.
