An abraded sherd of Roman samian pottery, probably a 2nd century AD Gaulish Dragendorff type 37 bowl. The main feature of this body sherd is the moulded decoration around the outside. The scene depicts a bull butting left; the forelegs of a second quadruped can be seen immediately above and the hind legs of a third animal (or possibly human arms?) lie to the left of the bull. In addition to the zoomorphic decoration, there is moulded grass along the bottom of the panel and, to the right of the bull, vine-like scroll. A ropework border marks the bottom of the panel and below this is the remnant of a second decorative panel of uncertain form. The fabric is light pinkish orange in colour and the slip is deep reddish brown. The sherd measures 64.3mm long, 46.4mm high and 6.9mm thick. The weight is 23.25g.
